For Mosques

Claim the 25% HMRC owes your mosque - on every eligible donation

Your congregation already gives generously at Jummah, during Ramadan, and through standing orders. Trust Alma captures Gift Aid declarations in 30 seconds and helps you reclaim thousands more each year - without changing how your donors give.

25%

The top-up HMRC adds on every eligible donation from a UK taxpayer

£3k-£5k

Extra annual Gift Aid for a medium mosque raising £60,000/year

30 sec

Time to capture an enduring declaration at the kiosk

UK mosques leave hundreds of millions in unclaimed Gift Aid every year. Most cash donations capture none of it, and even standing orders are only claimed about half the time - usually through manual paper forms that get lost or skipped. Alma closes the gap with a simple kiosk at the entrance, an online giving page for remote donors, and a Donation Hub that handles HMRC claims in a few clicks. We never take a cut of your Gift Aid. Every penny goes to the masjid.

Capabilities

Built for how mosques give

Every feature designed around how Muslim communities already give - Jummah, Ramadan, standing orders, and sadaqah.

Jummah-ready kiosk

A tablet at the entrance captures declarations as the congregation arrives. Returning donors are recognised by phone number and confirm in 5 seconds. Works on affordable Android tablets.

Ramadan surge handling

Donations spike 3-5x during Ramadan. Alma's kiosk, online giving page, and standing order tracking all handle the load without extra admin. Every iftar collection is Gift Aid ready.

Cash and GASDS tracking

Not every donation is Gift Aid eligible. Alma separates Zakat (not eligible) from Sadaqah and general giving, and automatically tracks small cash donations for the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme - up to £8,000/year in extra claimable income with no declaration needed.

Standing order capture

Log received payments in seconds or import a bank statement. Every standing order donor gets a Gift Aid declaration captured once and used forever.

Full control, no commission

We charge a flat monthly fee, never a percentage of your Gift Aid. A mosque recovering £10,000 a year pays Alma the same £990 as one recovering £50,000. Every extra pound goes to the masjid.

Your committee, your data

Unlike managed services that handle claims for you, Alma gives your trustees full visibility. Export HMRC-ready CSV, track who submitted each claim, and keep complete audit trails for your accounts.

How it works

A typical Jummah with Alma

1

Before Jummah

Set up an Android tablet near the entrance with Alma's kiosk. Add your logo, branding, and a welcome message. Fifteen minutes, no IT help needed.

2

As the congregation arrives

Donors tap the kiosk, enter their mobile number, and - if they're a taxpayer - confirm a Gift Aid declaration in 30 seconds. Returning donors skip straight to the amount. Card, cash, or 'pay by bank transfer' all work.

3

At the end of the month

Log in to the Donation Hub, check the Gift Aid ready to claim, and export an HMRC-format CSV. Submit through Charities Online, wait about 5 weeks, and the money lands in your mosque's bank account.

“Alma captured more Gift Aid in our first Ramadan than we’d claimed in the previous three years combined. Setup took 20 minutes and the committee can see every penny.”

FAQ

Common questions from mosque treasurers

Is Gift Aid allowed on Zakat?
No - Zakat is a religious obligation and HMRC does not recognise it as a charitable gift. Sadaqah, Lillah, general donations, and building fund contributions are all Gift Aid eligible provided the donor is a UK taxpayer. Alma lets you mark donations as 'not eligible' at the kiosk so Zakat is tracked separately and excluded from HMRC claims.
What about cash collections at the door?
Individual cash donations can't usually be Gift Aided because there's no donor identity. But the Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme lets you claim a top-up on cash and contactless donations under £30 without a declaration - up to £8,000/year. Alma tracks your GASDS totals automatically.
Does the kiosk need internet?
It works online during setup and syncing, but declarations can be captured offline and sync when reconnected. Card payments need internet; cash and bank transfer declarations do not.
Can donors give in Arabic or Urdu?
The kiosk includes a language toggle. English and Punjabi are built in, and Arabic and Urdu are on the roadmap. The Gift Aid declaration itself must be in English to be HMRC valid, but you can show translations alongside.
How quickly do we receive the Gift Aid?
Typically around 5 weeks from submission. Alma generates the HMRC-ready CSV; you submit through Charities Online using your existing Government Gateway login; HMRC pays directly into your mosque's bank account.
